The Chillenden Rainbow Appeal was set up in 2003 to raise money for urgent repairs and restoration work to both All Saints Church and the Village Hall. Under the direction of the PCC the Rainbow Appeal Committee has raised over £100,000 from a wide range of fundraising events and grant applications for the necessary works. The main works at All Saints Church are now largely complete (2008). These included works to waterproof the south wall and repair the plaster work, repairs to the guttering, windows and entrance porch, as well the installation of a modern heating and lighting system, and the creation of a small kitchen area and associated storage. The focus for 2008 and 2009 now is the Village Hall. Whilst the hall is actively being used by the community for meetings, keep fit and pilates classes, and parties it is in need of renovation and modernisation to bring it up to current standards. In particular the kitchen and toilets need a total rebuild, as well as improvements to access, lighting, heating and storage general need upgrading.
During 2008 and 2009 the Rainbow Appeal Committee will continue its fundraising work to provide resources to the PCC to carry out its capital works programme. Your support and input is very gratefully received.

Work starts on church!
At the PCC meeting on Monday 28th November 2005 the final scope of the restoration project was agreed based on the funds currently available. Priority was given to the south wall, heating and lighting elements of the work, as well as kitchenette and storage space. Repairs to four of the six windows (glass and masonry work), electrical modernisation, and internal redecoration will also be carried out. Other works including the porch were felt to be of a lower priority and will deferred until more funding becomes available.
Work had already started by 2nd December 2005 on replacing the guttering and downpipes and this essential piece of work should be completed before Christmas.

Programme of works (11th March 2006)
The PCC has now agreed a new scope of works with the architect and will be inviting firms to tender very shortly. It is hoped that a main contractor can be appointed in the next month so that works can begin in earnest by May 2006 at the latest. It is expected that the works will last about 15 months during which time All Saints will have to be closed for services and to the public. It is hoped that regular Sunday services will continue at St. Clements, Knowlton during the interim. We will publish a programme of works here on this website in due course, as well as anticipated closure periods.
